Grammar/Mechanics/Usage

- Visit the school for open houses, parent/teacher conferences, special events, and extracurricular activities.

- Be a parent volunteer.

- Check the school website, teacher website, newspaper, lunch menu, etc., to find out what's happening at school.

- Talk to your child. Ask about friends, sports, clubs, classes, teachers, or any school-related subject.

- Ask to see your child's homework. If your child never has homework, contact the teacher to find out what is taking place in the curriculum.

- Make a personal contact with the teacher or teachers. Let them know you are interested and give them an easy way to contact you. (E-mail is an excellent form of communication for most teachers.)

- Read to your child and let your child see you read.

- Take your child to the public library. Make sure your child has a personal library card.

- Make sure your child gets enough sleep. Encourage and help your child to eat nutritious, well-balanced, and healthy meals.

- Join a parent/teacher organization or school booster club.
